Liz Saville Roberts urges voters to reject Reform UK’s ‘Trumpian politics’ and back Plaid Cymru in May election

Plaid Cymru Westminster Leader Liz Saville Roberts MP has today (Wednesday 8 April) warned that the Iran war underlines why Reform UK cannot be trusted with power in Wales.
She reminded Welsh voters that Reform UK’s leadership had been “gung-ho” in favour of Trump’s illegal war before it became “politically expedient” to U-turn.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage signalled support for escalation early in the conflict, telling a London press conference: “The gloves need to come off. We need to accept that we’re part of this with the Americans”.
Deputy leader Richard Tice went further, stating in an interview: “We would be helping the Americans and Israelis in any way they saw appropriate. If requests were made, we would have been saying ‘yes, we’re pleased to help’.”
With the polls showing a tight race between Plaid Cymru and Reform UK in Wales, Ms Saville Roberts urged voters to reject what she described as Reform UK’s “Trumpian politics” and instead back Plaid Cymru as a principled, mature alternative.
Liz Saville Roberts MP:
“We all breathed a sigh of relief waking up this morning to see that Trump’s apocalyptic threats had thankfully not materialised. We hope that the ceasefire will pave the way for a permanent peace, this war has already ravaged people's cost of living and taken too many lives in the region.
“The war is a reminder that Reform UK simply cannot be trusted. The party’s leadership has for years attached itself to Trump and was gung-ho in favour of this illegal war before it became politically expedient to U-turn.
“Reform UK’s politics are reckless and deeply irresponsible. People’s cost of living would be even more severely impacted had Nigel Farage had his way. Their rhetoric shows they are not fit to be trusted with important decisions.
“The polls are clear that only two parties can lead the next Welsh Government – Plaid Cymru or Reform UK. The choice for voters is either to risk a path of Trumpian instability with Reform UK or mature, responsible government with Plaid Cymru, with Rhun ap Iorwerth as First Minister.”
