This week’s Scottish budget by the SNP Scottish Government was a budget to ease the pressures on Scottish families; a budget for a stronger NHS; and a budget for investment in Scotland’s economy and infrastructure.

Today, I present a budget for Scottish families. A budget for a stronger NHS. And a budget for investment in Scotland’s infrastructure.

As a result of the decisions I am announcing today, some of the pressure on families and family budgets will ease.

There will be more operations and appointments in our health service, and it will be easier to access a GP.

College funding will grow, giving our young people more opportunities to learn and flourish.

Life will be a little easier for parents, with more wraparound childcare.

And more young Scots will be able to find a home that they love, and can afford, helping them build a more secure future right here in Scotland.

The upcoming Senedd election is a historic opportunity for Wales to elect a Plaid Cymru Government focused on getting to grips with the issues facing the country, Rhun ap Iorwerth is expected to say during a press conference today (Tuesday 13 January 2026).

Mebyon Kernow would like to thank our sister party in Wales for tabling an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons setting out congratulations on our first 75 years.

This week, Mebyon Kernow members and supporters are marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of Mebyon Kernow at the Oates Temperance Hotel in Redruth, which took place on 6th January 1951.

Of course, lots of people in Scotland give up time with family over Christmas to help us all.

Everyone at Mebyon Kernow is extremely saddened that MK’s eighth leader, Loveday Carlyon, recently passed away.

2026 can be the year of hope and new leadership for Wales, Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth has said.
