On this the 110th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising the Leadership of the Republican Movementsends greetings to Irishmen and women at home and across the world.

The Republic proclaimed by Pádraig Pearse on Easter Monday 1916 and established by the majority vote of the Irish people in the election of 1918 has the allegiance of the Army Council.

We send greetings to all Republican prisoners and especially to Damian Harte, Lurgan, Co Armagh, convicted on contrived offences and sentenced to five years. He is being held by the forces of the Crown at Maghaberry jail.

We salute the brave Palestinian people living or existing in Gaza and the West Bank who continue to endure a most terrible genocide with the unremitting premeditated murder of tens of thousands of men, women, and children. Death by bombing, hunger and entrapment as buildings collapse.

The rights of immigrant people and refugees, people fleeing from war and hunger needs to be met with generous acceptance for their plight. They and their children will without doubt be the human assets of our country in years to come.

There are lessons we must all learn and promote in our dealing with communities around us. No religion has a monopoly on Irishness. The Republic was proclaimed: Ireland for all the people of the nation. We take our thoughts and our political aspirations from Theobald Wolfe Tone, Robert Emmet, Thomas Davis, O’Donovan Rossa and the men and women of Easter 1916.

Recruitment to this organisation is ongoing. Discipline and honour are the vital components and recruits coming into this organisation need to bring much of these attributes with them and a desire to achieve and improve these necessities.

Support the Irish language and speak it. Tá tábhacht faoi leith ag baint leis an nGaeilge. “Dá gcaillfí an Ghaeilge de chaillfí Éire,” a dúirt Pádraig Mac Piarais. “We are a place apart with our language, If we lose it, we lose Éire.”

The nature of resistance is changing and this Movement forges new ways to deal with the imperialEnglish partition of our country and the continued occupation. Their counter revolutionary tactics and strategies are evolving, and we must evolve ourtactics and strategies to thwart their efforts to capture our country.

This Movement is dedicated to the cause of Irish freedom. Towards this outcome the Republican Movement shall continue to “stand to” and strike at any time against the occupiers and their hirelings in Ireland.

— Issued by the Leadership of the Republican Movement, Easter 2026.

https://republicansinnfein.org/2026/04/08/easter-statement-from-the-leadership-of-the-republican-movement-9/

REPUBLICANS throughout Ireland were deeply saddened to learn of the death on January 18th of Sinn Féin Poblachtach Ard Chomhairle member Eddie McKeown, Newry, Co Down.

Eddie McKeown was born in 1946, in a street named after the Irish patriot John Mitchel, the third of seven children, five boys and two girls. His father was employed as a dough maker in the local TP Willis’s bakery and his mother also worked.

Eddie’s father was a member of the Irish Labour Party, and was asked to stand for them in the aftermath of the local split, which produced the “Newry Labour Party”. This was born after Newry Council Chairman Tommy Markey was expelled from the Irish Party for “taking the Salute” at a British Army recruiting parade.

From a relatively early age Eddie was drawn to Irish Republicanism. He challenged the demonisation of the IRA at the Abbey Grammar school, saying he believed they were right to fight for Irish freedom. Eddie found it ironic that those who damned the fighters of the 50s-60s campaign now eulogise them but similarly damn today’s freedom fighters.

If one single event reinforced his Republicanism, it was the death of his brother, Volunteer Patrick McKeown. Patsy, or “Buddy” as he was popularly known, for his resemblance to Buddy Holly, died in a premature explosion on August 27, 1974. He was just 29. Gerry Adams delivered the oration at his funeral! Eddie was disgusted, but not surprised, to observe the “constitutional” path that Adams later followed.

Eddie described himself as a Republican/communist; hisheroes were Theobald Wolfe Tone and James Connolly. His favourite quotation from the latter was: “I believe that England has no right in Ireland, never had any right in Ireland and never can have any right in Ireland.”

Down through the years Eddie McKeown worked hard for the Republican cause in his home town of Newry. Up to recent months he sold the Republican newspaper SAOIRSE, Republican calendars etc, attended events and commemorations and was active on behalf of the Republican POWs in Maghaberry jail.

For the last number of years Eddie served on the Ard Chomhairle of Sinn Féin Poblachtach and was a very valued member of the Coiste Seasta (the Standing Committee). He was the Ulster recipient of the CABHAIR Testimonial in 2016.

Deepest sympathy is extended to Eddie’s sisters, Sarah and Nuala and his extended family.

I measc na bhFíníní go raibh a anam uasail.

https://republicansinnfein.org/2026/01/19/death-of-eddie-mckeown/

Sinn Féin Poblachtach opposes the EU Mercosur Deal and extend our support to the Agricultural industry at the news of the Deal being passed by the EU.

The Mercosur deal is a Free Trade and Partnership agreement between the EU and South American countries Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay & Uruguay. This deal would allow EU member states to import cheap beef and minerals in exchange for Chemicals, Machinery & Pharmaceutical being exported to the South American countries.

If the deal is passed by European MEPs it has the potential to decimate the Irish Beef industry in the Twenty-Six Counties. We have already seen the destruction of Ireland’s fishing industry at the hands of the EU, don’t let our Farmers go the same way!

The Agricultural industry is the backbone of the Irish economy. It’s the largest home grown industry that we have, supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs not to mention the other industries heavily reliant on it. More than that, it is the backbone of rural Ireland. The destruction of Irelands agricultural industry would lead to severe consequences for rural Ireland and a further erosion of Irish culture.

Many people outside rural Ireland fail to grasp the true importance of the agricultural industry. Some belief that our future lies from employment from multinational companies. However, we are already seeing these companies slowly making employees redundant as they plan to move their operations to countries with cheap labour costs like India and Eastern Europe. This is due to rising costs to operating in Ireland as a result of the cost of living crisis. It’s highly likely in twenty to thirty years, our ‘office’ jobs and pharmaceutical industry will no longer be here. They moved from the USA to Ireland, do not think for one second they won’t leave Ireland! Undermining our Agricultural industry in favour of short term, corporate interests would be a grave mistake with long lasting consequences for Ireland as a whole.

While the Free State government has rightly raised strong objections to the deal, they have already indicated they are willing to impose a forced cull of the Irish livestock to meet climate change requirements. While they claim to defend the interests of Irish farmers, they will happily sell out the farmers for the Mercosur deal so long as they get something in return.

We call on all to support our farmers, and voice their objections to the deal. We must not sell out to line the pockets of the EU at the expense of the Irish people.

Críoch

https://republicansinnfein.org/2026/01/13/say-no-to-mercosur-deal/
